ICI Services’ Employees Share Engineering Project of the Year

Virginia Beach, VA – ICI Services Corporation announced today that seven employees working on the Ship Self Defense System for the new aircraft carrier GERALD R. FORD (CVN 78) were honored by the National Engineers Week Committee of Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties.
Their CVN 78 Integrated Combat System Land-Based Engineering Test Project was named an Engineering Project of the Year during the Committee’s annual awards ceremony held at the Ronald Regan Presidential Foundation and Library in Simi Valley, CA.
“This project has overcome numerous technical, programmatic and schedule challenges to ensure successful completion of all test and analysis activities required to support shipboard testing and delivery,” the Committee noted in presenting the award. “The extensive team working this project is a mix of Military, Government Civil Service and Contractor personnel. They bring a variety of skill sets that are cohesive and produce results.”
The project is part of the Ship Self Defense Systems engineering and technical support that ICI Services is providing under a $35.6 million prime contract with Naval Surface Warfare Center Port Hueneme.
ICI Services’ Engineering and Test and Evaluation employees honored were: ISD Test and Evaluation Lead Leonard Wieberg, and Test Engineers Ryan Power, Bryan Turner, Derryk Walterman, Clym Jones, and Bernard Starceski, and Logistics Analyst Barbara Schlingensiepen.
Three ICI Services’ subcontractor personnel were also cited for their superior efforts. They are: Bob Householder, Jeff McKenzie, and Liz Slonaker, of McKenzie Systems Engineering Associates.
The FORD is the first new carrier design in 41 years and will have a redesigned reactor, an electromagnetic aircraft launch system, advanced arresting gear and dual band radar. It will also have a new Ship Self Defense System, which must be tested at the Navy’s Wallops Island Test Facility in Virginia. It will be supported by ICI Services personnel at the company’s Wallops Island office.
When delivered, the FORD will have “one of the most formidable Combat Systems afloat due, in large part, to the performance of this team,” the award noted.
The Ship Self Defense System prime contract falls within ICI Service’s Engineering Services Division, headed by Vice President Ted Fredrick. Al Joseph is the ICI Services Program Manager, responsible for overall technical performance of project teams in Oxnard and San Diego, California, and Norfolk and Wallops Island, Virginia.
